March4Repeal – International Women’s Day 2017

No More Delays – Name the Date for a Referendum

Wednesday 8th March is International Women’s Day, a global day of action and solidarity.

We are calling on the Irish government to name the date for a referendum to repeal the eighth amendment.

One year on since the last General Election and despite all the promises and commitments given we are no closer to a referendum date. This cannot be permitted to continue.

Women in Ireland are no longer prepared to patiently and quietly wait while “expert’s” and politicians debate our human rights to personal and bodily autonomy.

Abortion is a reality in Ireland, yet it is a criminal offence that carries a 14-year prison sentence. Every year 3,600 women travel to Britain to access abortion. Many others, who are either unable to travel or cannot afford to, access the abortion pill online.

This hypocrisy must end now.

The Eighth Amendment is a profound source of discrimination and national shame for Ireland.

Join the March on International Women’s Day and demand a Referendum to Repeal the Eighth Amendment and respect women’s lives, health and choices.
